As planned, the seminar began at 1:15 p.m. and ended at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, with 14 participants in attendance. This date coincided with National Reforestation Day in Haiti. These participants gathered in the library of Collège Le Galiléen.
A warm introduction was addressed by Franckel, as the Coordinator of Cadeau Vert L'Estère, to welcome the participants and to introduce Cadeau Vert’s School Replanting Program to the L'Estère community.
The commune of L'Estère is divided into two municipal sections: Petites Desdunes and Lacroix Périsse. Participants in the June 7th seminar came from the following schools:
1. Collège Le Galiléen de L'Estère (Centre-ville de L'Estère) 7 participants
2. Institution Mixte Baptiste Conservatrice (Centre-ville de L'Estère) 4 participants
3. Institution Mixte Jean Piaget de Petites Desdunes (2e section communale de L'Estère) 3 participants
From the outset, a brief presentation of Cadeau Vert explained that the SRP designed for students from 3rd AF to the 11th grade, newly called NSII. The responsibility of each student who will have to grow at least one tree and take care of it was explained with utmost importance. Thus, the slogan of the School Replanting Program was repeated & echoed: One student, one tree, every year…
The second phase was directed by the agronomist Jephté ESTINVIL to teach the participants about seed selection techniques for preparing seedlings. His presentation was expanded into 2 parts:
Part I:
• Definition and importance of reforestation
• Advantages and disadvantages
• Reforestation methods and stages
Part II:
• Seed preparation and planting techniques
• Selection of different seeds
• Preparation of the area to be reforested
• Follow-up and maintenance
All in all, it was recommendefd that participants pass on the knowledge acquired to their students, particularly the seed selection and preparation techniques.
At the end of the session, refreshments were offered to the participants. All left invigorated and encouraged that such a program is about to be carried out in their community.
