Trimester in Triumph
As we are nearing the end of this year, we can’t help but be grateful and joyous as several schools have triumphantly launched the Cadeau Vert School Replanting Program. In addition, several schools have organized Cadeau Vert seminars, despite many unforeseen challenges.
Institution Flore de Simon Cayes- First Launch
Starting something is the hardest part. Launching the School Replanting Program (SRP) is one of the 3 essential parts of the program for each school. It is an exciting time when each student gets to start growing a tree. Once that first step is taken, momentum builds. Haiti desperately needs momentum.
The second part of the program is the individual work that is done at home. After the trees are grown at home, the final and 3rd part of our program is the Journée Verte at the end of the school year. We are always eager to launch our program in schools in order to guarantee new trees are planted every year.
The SRP is a simple program that can be followed by any school. The objective of this program is to integrate replanting into the culture, particularly through the school system. Our motto is “one student, one tree, every year.”
Two seminars were successfully held. On October 4th, a seminar was held at (ICS) Institution Chrétienne de Sous-Rigole under the leadership of Mrs. Gina Pierre-Louis, Director, along with her administrators Wood Vilneat & Jacobson Etienne.
As a result, several directors who attended that seminar took upon themselves to launch the Cadeau Vert School Replanting Program in their own school, out of the area of 2eme Plaine, near Miragoane. Among them are Collège La Renaissance and College Rivière Herard d’Annoux where the guest speaker laid out some of the immediate benefits of the SRP. Planting trees reduces the negative effects of methane gas CH4 and carbon dioxide CO2, consequences of human activity and natural processes.

Despite rainy seasons, unpracticable roads, & meager means of transportation, the teachers from Ecole Nationale 3e Cycle de Grison-Garde were finally able to attend the seminar organized by the leaders of Cadeau Vert Cap seminar. After several attempts, the goal to have this seminar became fully realized.

In the open air of their school yard in the Département du Sud, the two directors of the Institution Flore de Simon Cayes, Maître Chalviré Luxama & Mrs. Florencia Luxama, have launched their first SRP.

Agronomist Louinel Lacombe addressed the students and staff on the topic of the environment being a result of both natural and cultural conditions. He retained the attention of most of the students and staff alike when they collaboratively listed water, earth, air, & fire as necessary to sustain life. Cadeau Vert aims to stimulate everyone to protect life through “one student, one tree, every year.”

Merollyssa’s Avocado Tree
Since the launch, one student sent this note to Mr. Luxama: “Hello Mr. Luxama. How are you? This is Merollyssa. I wanted to share with you the progress of my avocado seedling. What do you think of it?
First Launch
As the year reaches its last days, Mr. Joanis Lousol, director of Ecole Communautaire de Lassale, organized their first launch of Cadeau Vert SRP!
Agronomist Alcius Jean Cleador was the main speaker for the event. With this school housing 560 students, we look ahead with anticipation to a wonderful Journée Verte by the end of the school year with the whole school body.
Agronomist Cledanor, seasoned in the science of agriculture, sent words about how motivated and happy he has been since the news of the Cadeau Vert SRP landed on in his turf.
He expresses hope because when one is walking up the hills of Petit Boucan, it is encouraging to see the fruit trees, oak trees, the Moringa trees, and mahogany among others, still adorning the main road where the leaders from Christianville University took the initiative to launch their first Journée Verte in 2003. The ripple effects of that first Journée continue to beam towards a brighter future.
The Agronomists and Schools Principals are determined to stretch the Cadeau Vert School Replanting Program throughout the whole Commune of Gressier. They attest that even if the kids don’t fully grasp the importance of the work they are doing now as they grow their trees, they will eventually see how vital their participation will have been for their immediate environment, and for the world.

Christ-Roi de Grande Savanne with Director Yves Victor
Nouvelle Institution Chretienne de Léogane with Director Jhonny Felix
Collège des Universitaires Pragmatiques de Petit- Boucan with Director Aristhène Jean Héloge

We want to extend big thanks to Pastor Benito Joseph, founder and director of the Institution Chrétienne de Grande Savane (ICS) who is the cornerstone of tree replanting in that area.
ICS has proudly launched their second SRP Launch. Hats off for this tremendous momentum!
